This certificate is required to operate a personal watercraft, and for persons born on or after January 1, 1982, to operate boats powered by motors greater than 25 horsepower.
Students who successfully complete this course may apply for a Boating Safety Education Certificate issued by the Commission. To receive the certificate, the student must send a check or money order for $10.00 to the Commission.
The firearm education program is currently inactive and awaiting interested volunteers to restart the program. Our courses emphasize safety and gun owner’s responsibility. The Conewago Rod and Gun Club has offered the following courses in the past:
- Refuse to be a victim
- Basic Pistol
- Range Safety Officer
All courses are open to the public with price discounts for club members. Our membership has generously created a Youth Education Fund to offset the cost of safety education for our young members. Any member younger than 18 years of age will qualify for reimbursement from the youth education fund after successful completion of a club sponsored course. A maximum of 80% of the course fee will be distributed evenly to qualified youth members.
Refuse to be a victim course is a four-hour NRA seminar taught by certified NRA instructors. The course does not require firearms. Discussion of firearms is not featured. There is no test and participants will receive an NRA certificate and course book. The seminar will discuss the criminal mind and activities. This knowledge can help the student avoid becoming a victim. Risk due to accidents is discussed and the knowledge can again help the student avoid being a victim.
Basic Pistol course is designed for the individual with no or limited experience with a handgun and is taught by NRA certified instructors. This is an 8-hour course that includes a live fire exercise. Students will be taught to safely own, fire, and clean three common types of pistols. After exam completion students will receive a certificate of completion and student handbook from the Conewago Rod and Gun Club.
Range Safety Officer course is taught by NRA certified instructors. This is a classroom course with hands on exercises. There is no live fire exercise during this course. Students successfully completing this course will receive a Range Safety Officer credential through the NRA.
